Attorney John B. "Jock" Hannum, Jr. named Chester County Bar Association's Board of Directors' Award winner

WEST CHESTER: John B. "Jock" Hannum, Jr., of the law firm of Goldberg, Meanix, McCallin & Muth was named winner of the Chester County Bar Association's Board of Directors' Award.

"This is such a great honor," Hannum said. "There are many outstanding members of the association who qualify for this award. I'm just so honored." The award was given on Friday, January 23, 2009, at the Desmond Hotel during the Bar Association's President's Dinner.

The Board of Directors' Award is given annually in recognition of outstanding achievement by an individual in the legal profession "for advancing the goals and principles of our constitutional form of government."

The criteria for this achievement award includes "one or more of the following:

Service to public or legal profession; Distinguished government services; Contributions to the advancement of knowledge in the legal profession; Service to the Association."

Hannum was recognized for serving on the Bar Association's Pro Bono Committee and taking 10 Pro Bono cases in 2008, assisting the Legal Aid fundraising campaign's phone-a-thon and supporting almost every Bar Association and Bar Foundation event. In 2006, Hannum won the Honorable Juan R. Sanchez Pro Bono Award of the Year.

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in economics and the Dickinson School of Law, Hannum has practiced law in the county for almost 40 years. He is active in a number of professional organizations, including the Chester County Bar Association.

His legal career includes positions as a Law Clerk with the Pennsylvania Superior Court; an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District Court of Pennsylvania, private practice in West Chester, Chief Counsel of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and the Pennsylvania Horse and Harness Racing Commissions.

Hannum recently joined the Goldberg firm as Senior Of Counsel. Hannum specializes in litigation, business matters, environmental law and equine law.

Hannum is also active in civic endeavors, including being Chairman of Chester County 2020, a leading Conservation 501c(3) in Chester County. He is a member of the Republican State Committee.

He resides in West Grove with his wife, Anne Stroud Hannum. Hannum is a veteran of the United States Marine Corp where he received two Bronze Stars with Combat V for his service in Vietnam as an Artillery Officer from 1968 - 1969.
